Teaching and Learning Transformation Center workshop for instructors:
Sending students into the community well-prepared benefits everyone involved. This session covers four essentials to set students up for success: 1) the values that ground this work (reciprocity, equity, authentic relationships, respect); 2) the historical and cultural context of the community they'll be joining; 3) an experiential learning mindset, which includes being observant and curious, being ready to adapt to the unexpected, and recognizing their unconscious biases; and 4) the practical logistics, from on-site safety and transportation to professional communication norms. You'll leave with a framework for covering all four before students set foot in the community.
