Teaching and Learning Transformation Center workshop for instructors:
Student engagement begins with motivation, and many instructors are finding that their approaches to engaging students are not landing the way they used to. How can we better design learning experiences that motivate students to engage more deeply?
In this workshop, we will discuss theories of motivation and how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation influence student engagement. We will also consider how generative AI and other shifts in higher education are shaping motivation and participation and identify strategies for designing class sessions, activities, and assignments that encourage meaningful engagement. Bring an upcoming lesson or assignment and leave with ideas you can apply to your course.
