Things We Imagined Screening and Discussion

The Anti-Black Racism Initiative and the College of Education invite the campus community to a special film screening and discussion of Things We Imagined by Imagined Futures, directed by filmmakers Dr. Candace Hall and Dr. Charles H.F. Davis III, on March 27 at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland.

Things We Imagined emerges from Imagined Futures, a digital and visual scholarship project that uses artistic portraits, documentary interviews, film, and written narratives from aspiring, current, and former Black college and university faculty to reimagine the academy (and Black life within it). Through speculative and creative approaches, the project amplifies the visibility of Black faculty, challenges conventional representations of Black personhood, and centers Black experiences in conversations about knowledge, belonging, self-authorship, and future-making within and beyond higher education. 

Several of our exceptional University of Maryland faculty and alumni are featured in this incredible piece of art. 

This event will begin with a pre-event reception from 3:00–4:00 p.m., followed by the film screening from 4:00–5:00 p.m. A moderated discussion from 5:00–6:00 p.m. will feature Drs. Hall and Davis in conversation with Dean Kimberly Griffin, offering space for reflection on imagination, storytelling, and futures shaped by justice and possibility.
