Part I: Broaching as a Courageous Practice
Tuesday, October 28 | 12:00–1:30 PM | ESJ 0201
Broaching is a research-informed strategy to initiate complex conversations and deepen relationships. It builds trust, nurtures connection, and demonstrates courage—skills essential to teaching, advising, and leading in today’s climate.
In this session, participants will:
- Notice how their identity and role shape comfort in race-related conversations.
- Reflect on what helps or stops them from speaking up about race and culture.
- Try out simple steps to start and stay brave in conversations about race.
Who should attend:
Instructional faculty (including graduate teaching assistants), academic leaders, and staff interested in cultivating more open, courageous dialogue in classrooms, departments, and campus spaces.
This session is sponsored by the Intergroup Dialogue Training Hub and the Teaching and Learning Transformation Center.
Part II will take place on November 13, offering participants a chance to apply and practice broaching skills through real-world scenarios.
