The development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) is a strategic priority for the United States, as it will play an increasing role in its technological leadership in the world and its economic security. The same is true for its international partners and allies. America’s AI Action Plan provides more than 90 steps to strengthen its leadership in AI. This will undoubtedly require investments in a robust infrastructure to enable the growth and deployment of AI, and will provide some critical challenges that must be addressed to meet the future needs of this technology. Some of the critical areas of need include advances in electronics and hardware, energy and water resources in data centers, thermal management, export control and policy, and the development of the necessary workforce.

The National Academy of Engineering, University of Maryland, AMD, Canadian Academy of Engineering, and National Science Foundation are pleased to host a symposium to discuss the current needs and potential pathways to create the future of AI infrastructure.
