Language House International Film Series: "Persepolis" with the Persian & French Clusters
- To
- St. Mary's Hall

Join us for an international movie screening at the Language House, hosted by students of the Persian & French Clusters. We will screen Persepolis at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 21, in 0107 St. Mary's Hall, the International Film Lounge. In the film, writer and director Marjane Satrapi draws a poignant story about a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, when people's hopes were dashed as fundamentalists took power. The film is based on Satrapi's graphic novel about her life in pre- and post-revolutionary Iran and then in Europe. The film traces Satrapi's growth from a child to a rebellious, punk-loving teenager in Iran. In the background are the growing tensions of the political climate in Iran in the '70s and '80s, with members of her liberal-leaning family detained and then executed, and the background of the disastrous Iran/Iraq war. Everyone is welcome to attend.
