Lab to Market: Federal Funding and Transition Support for Scientist Entrepreneurs and Early-stage Biotech Start-ups

Program directors Patricia Weber and William Bozza from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Development Center will prove a detailed overview of funding opportunities and resources to help biotech innovators in the University of Maryland community move their projects toward commercialization. Following the main presentation, attendees will have the chance to participate in a live Q&A session with speakers.
Topics to be covered include:
- SBIR/STTR eligibility requirements
- NIH SBIR/STTR process and new cancer-focused funding opportunities from NCI
- NCI SBIR/STTR initiatives such as the I-Corps at NIH Entrepreneurship Program, Applicant
- Assistant Program, etc.
- Practical strategies on how to successfully submit competitive research proposals
Attendees will also have the opportunity to book one-on-one meetings with NCI program staff to discuss their projects. Presenters:
Dr. Patricia ‘Patti’ Weber is a Program Director at the National Cancer Institute’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Development Center. In her role she provides oversight throughout the award period and mentors awardees in their technology goals and commercialization strategy.
Dr. William ‘Billy’ Bozza joined the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Development Center at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in January of 2021. He serves as a Program Director, managing a portfolio of oncology startups (SBIR & STTR awardees) to facilitate small businesses in technology commercialization for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
