Rooted in the recognition that anti-Black racism is deeply embedded across societal systems—from education and health care to housing and criminal justice—this regional conference will convene scholars, practitioners, and students to examine and confront its systemic presence in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) region.
Hosted by the University of Maryland, a national leader in anti-Black racism scholarship and home to the first known academic minor dedicated to the subject, the conference will spotlight cross-disciplinary research and action. Grounded in five core fields—Behavioral and Social Sciences, Education, Public Health, Public Policy, and Arts and Humanities—this convening will highlight cutting-edge scholarship and policy ideas aimed at dismantling structural inequities.
Panel discussions and sessions will explore topics including policy and systemic change and the role higher education plays in the eradication of anti-black racism in society. With a strong emphasis on regional relevance, the event will elevate the experiences and insights of communities across Prince George’s County and the broader DMV area.
The conference aims to:
- Build a regional network of academics, practitioners and students committed to eradicating anti-Black racism
- Facilitate critical dialogue around current challenges and barriers to equity
- Explore actionable policy and practice-based solutions to advance racial justice
