David Agnew is the Managing Director of Government Affairs at Macquarie Asset Management (MAM), a position he has held since joining the firm in 2014. Based in New York City, David works as a key liaison between MAM and federal, state, and local governments, focusing on strengthening MAM’s market presence and exploring new investment opportunities.
Before joining Macquarie, David had a distinguished career in public service. He served as the Deputy Assistant to President Obama and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, where he managed relationships with state, local, and tribal officials. He also worked as a deputy to Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. and as a Special Assistant to US Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.
In addition to his government roles, David has held leadership positions with non-profit organizations such as the Trust for Public Land, the Charleston Parks Conservancy, and the College of Charleston Riley Center.
David holds a Master of Arts in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He has been recognized as a Harry S. Truman Scholar, a European Union Visiting Fellow, and a Liberty Fellow.
