Please join us on December 6 at 6pm in the International Film Lounge (0107 St. Mary's Hall) for a screening of the film "Айка" (“Ayka”). Everyone is welcome!
The film follows Ayka, a young Kyrgyz woman who is struggling to survive in Moscow after abandoning her newborn baby. Burdened by debt and facing exploitation at every turn, she scrambles to find work and secure her precarious existence. As she battles the consequences of her recent childbirth and an expired work permit, Ayka's desperate circumstances force her into a harrowing deal with cruel and heartless debt collectors. This gripping story delves into themes of survival, exploitation, and the harsh realities faced by Middle Asian immigrants in modern Russia.
