Solar eclipse

What You'll See
In College Park, we will witness a deep partial solar eclipse as we are not in the path of totality. The new moon will start to cross the face of the sun at 2:04 p.m. and obscure 87% of the sun at maximum eclipse, which occurs at 3:20 p.m. The eclipse ends at 4:33 p.m.

Safety First
If you are viewing the eclipse, make sure to protect your eyes. Solar eclipse observers have to follow safe sun viewing procedures as failure to do so could result in an eye injury. We will provide free solar eclipse glasses that meet the strict ISO standard until supplies run out.

Parking
Paid public parking is available in the surface lots and garage at The Hotel at The University of Maryland, located at 7777 Baltimore Ave., College Park, MD 20740.

Inclement Weather
If the weather on April 8 is terrible (overcast, lots of rain) in College Park, we will meet in the Physical Sciences Complex Lobby to watch a live webcast from within the path of totality.

This event is co-hosted by UMD's College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences; Department of Astronomy; and Space Sciences Outreach Cooperative.
