Department of Spanish and Portuguese's annual José Emilio Pacheco Lecture Series, featuring the Mexican poet Pura López Colomé:
Pura López Colomé (México City, 1952) is a poet, essayist, and translator. She has published thirteen poetry collections, including books with the prestigious presses Conaculta and Fondo de Cultura Económica. Many of her essay collections have been published by Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM). Her poetry collections have appeared in English, French, German, Dutch, and Slovenian translation. Among the poets whose work she has translated are the Nobel laureates Seamus Heaney and Louise Glück. She has won some of the most important literary and translation awards in Mexico and the world, including the Premio Nacional Alfonso Reyes, the Premio Xavier Villaurrutia, the Premio Nacional Inés Arredondo, the Royal Dutch Medal of Orange-Nassau, the Premio Nacional de Traducción Literaria, and the Banff International Translation Center’s Linda Gaboriau prize, supported by the Canadian National Arts Centre. She is a member of Mexico’s Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (National System of Art Creators). She lives in Cuernavaca.
