The NOI Philharmonic presents a program weaving together various perspectives of the American experience with works by Leonard Bernstein, Gabriela Ortiz and Kevin Puts. The lively and percussive Antrópolis by Gabriela Ortiz opens the concert, reverberating with the echoes of urban North America’s night scene. Joining Marin Alsop and the NOI Philharmonic is the genre-crossing Time for Three, which will dazzle audiences in Kevin Puts’ Contact. This concerto written for the string trio highlights the fundamental need for human connection discovered across America and the globe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rounding out the program are two selections by the great American composer, conductor and humanist Leonard Bernstein. Symphonic Dances from West Side Story showcases crowd-pleasing highlights from the composer’s celebrated musical. The program closes with Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, which depicts the hilarious and sometimes romantic adventures of three sailors on leave in the great New York City.
