Inclusive Hiring Workshops

The ADVANCE Program and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion offer Inclusive Faculty Hiring Workshops for faculty and staff involved in faculty hiring. The workshop contains two components: a synchronous, virtual workshop facilitated by ADVANCE and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and six modules search committee members can complete asynchronously (via UMD Open Learning). Participants receive an invitation to the asynchronous workshop after completing the live synchronous component. Completion of the workshop fulfills one of the departmental requirements of the Faculty Advancement at Maryland For Inclusive Learning and Excellence (FAMILE) Initiative. In 2023-2024, most workshops will be facilitated by Equity Coaches, faculty and staff who have been trained in inclusive hiring strategies and best practices for mitigating bias.
