Counterpoint is a one-of-a-kind project—part dance and part piano recital, with a dose of theatrics—that demands to be experienced live! The collaboration between great American composer and pianist Conrad Tao and outstanding tap dancer Caleb Teicher is a uniquely fresh and deeply vital exploration of percussion's transcendent joys of sound and impact. Back at The Clarice by popular demand, the duo uncover fresh perspectives with exciting harmonic, rhythmic and theatrical traditions linking each other's practices across disciplines and eras. As heard (and seen) on NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concert, the stylistically diverse inspirations of Counterpoint include George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, the Aria from J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, the spirit of Art Tatum’s manic stride piano, Arnold Schoenberg’s ironic take on the Viennese waltz, original works by Tao, and Teicher’s Bessie Award-winning composition for tap and keys, More Forever.
