The purpose of Bias Awareness Week is to bring awareness to the UMD campus community about how to address and heal from Hate Bias incidents, specifically highlighting Bias Incident Support Services (BISS). Please see the list of events and registration links below:
Meet the BISS Team
BISS will host a meet and greet in the Marie Mount office (2417) to increase awareness and exposure of the office. Enjoy yummy Fall treats while mingling with the BISS staff.
Identity-based trauma is pervasive in our day-to-day world. From microaggressions to hate crimes, there is a vast spectrum of harm experienced by marginalized folx across infinite identities. This panel discussion will center the humanity of those experiencing trauma as we navigate the myriad means for healing, both for individuals and communities impacted by bias. *We welcome anyone who wishes to submit questions for our panelists to complete this brief Google Form: https://forms.gle/pvYHubaYzJG8...
International Pronouns Day - Tabling
In observance of International Pronouns Day, BISS and the Equity Center have collaborated on a tabling event that emphasizes the importance of pronouns while also exploring how bias exists when we hear pronouns outside of the binary and when we assume pronouns.
Bystander Intervention Workshop
BISS will be partnering with CARE to Stop Violence to present a bystander intervention workshop incorporating a creative approach to a traditional workshop in a fun way. This workshop will emphasize both BISS and CARE to Stop Violence as campus resources in an effort to explore how students can be active participants in addressing bias on campus.
Due to paint supplies and light refreshments being served this event does have limited capacity.
