Powered by the John and Stella Graves Makerspace and the GIS and Data Service Center.

We are hosting a student competition highlighting our Augmented Reality Sandbox and its applications across many academic disciplines. There will be a total of 5 topography competitions that will take place in the Fall '23 and Spring '24 semesters. The winner of each monthly competition will receive a $50 Amazon gift card!

From April 8th-19th, undergraduate and graduate students are invited to use the AR Sandbox to create and submit a 3D rendering of the provided 2D topographical map. This month's map is of a portion of Lopez Island in Washington State. Participants' submissions will be judged based on aesthetics and overall accuracy to the reference map.

Competition entries must be created during the Makerspace’s open hours. The Makerspace is open from 9am-5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and from 9am-8pm on Wednesdays.

Additionally, the GIS team will be hosting open hours on Tuesdays from 1-2pm and Wednesdays from 1-3pm to provide additional support for students creating their map submissions. Submissions can be created outside of these hours, but they are recommended for students who are unfamiliar with reading topography.

For full competition rules and submission instructions, check our Terplink event page!
