AI and Your Career: Preparing for Policy Work in an AI-Enabled Economy

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how work is organized and the skills employers demand. Drawing on recent Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) studies, this talk will briefly review what we know so far about AI's effects on employment and productivity, generally, and why the consequences are likely to differ substantially across occupations, workers and firms.

The discussion will then consider the impact of AI on careers in public policy, government, think tanks and international organizations. AI is already changing how information is analyzed, policies are designed and evaluated, and decisions are prepared. It will also explore why domain expertise, critical thinking, judgement, communication and the ability to use AI effectively may become increasingly important for building a successful career.
