“Out of the Margins: Re-Focusing Performance Scholarship for the 21st Century” is the latest PhD symposium offered by the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS), which annually brings together leading scholars, affiliated faculty, and advanced graduate students to engage significant trends in performance scholarship. In addition to challenging the field to re-center marginalized and global majority practices, this year’s symposium will spotlight TDPS’s role in addressing vital issues regarding the state of PhD programs in the arts and humanities. The schedule includes a keynote address by Dr. Esther Kim Lee of Duke University, an extended roundtable discussion responding to the “Re-envisioning the Humanities PhD” report released by the College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU), and a slate of panels spotlighting significant scholarship in theatre and performance studies. All events will take place in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and be available online via Zoom.
