The University of Maryland Libraries welcomes you to a screening of Being Michelle: a film documenting the life of a deaf artist with autism. She endured incarceration and abuse in harrowing conditions, within a system that did not accommodate her needs.

Michelle’s trajectory changed when she met Kim Law, a blind life coach who teaches classes to people in prison. Today, outside of prison, Kim and Michelle are unraveling Michelle’s history by chronicling Michelle’s life, childhood, and artwork.

Ultimately, Being Michelle is a story of redemption. It delves into the bond between Kim and Michelle, two women determined to thrive within a flawed system, and documents a journey to heal from the unimaginable.

This feature will be shown in the Special Events Room of McKeldin Library, Room 6137.
